Weekly money tip! Spring is here and this is the time of year that people start thinking of going garage sale shopping. Now would be a great time to start planning for one. I’ve had extremely successful garage sales over the years and often made hundreds of dollars doing them. One year I made over $2000 by selling unused furniture & kitchen items! Take a weekend and start shopping your house…. Go room to room and pick up anything you don’t need/want anymore and move it to the garage or a staging area. Don’t forget about your old DVDs and CDs, I sold over 300 CDs at one garage sale. Once you get it all pulled, take a weekend to organize it and price it. Don’t go too high on things, that’s when they don’t sell and you just get stuck moving it to Goodwill or back inside. Borrow tables and get it well organized. Offer sales like “buy 3 shirts, get 1 free” or “CDs, buy 3 get 1 free”. I also always offer a free table and advertise that fact, you will get even more people to come. I only advertise my sales on Craigslist (free) and only do them for 3 hours on one Saturday. I hardly ever have anything left but if I do, I offer it all for free for the last 30 minutes. This way I’m done and don’t have to deal with the clean up. When I open my garage door at 9:00 am, there are always about 40 people outside and it’s a mad rush for about an hour and a half (no joking!). I’ve had tons of people say that they love my garage sales because of how well organized/priced they are. If you need to make some money, this is a great way to do it!
